GE and Trilliant Deliver Smarter Energy Benefits to the City of Holly Springs through Smart Grid Solutions as a Service GE — Solutions to Help Holly Springs Modernize Grid Infrastructure Efficiently and Effectively

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF.—January 23, 2014—Trilliant, a global Smart Grid Communications leader, has announced that the company’s award-winning Smart Grid Communications Platform, has been chosen by GE (NYSE: GE) to be a part of its innovative Grid IQTM Solutions as a Service (SaaS) offering provided to the City of Holly Springs, Miss. The project, which utilizes Trilliant’s SecureMesh Communication Technology and services, was announced just before the start of DistribuTECH, North America’s largest annual smart grid conference.

The city of Holly Springs wanted to make smart grid investments to enhance its operational efficiency, improve reliability and increase customer engagement. In looking at various alternatives, Holly Springs chose GE’s Grid IQ SaaS as the most reliable and cost-effective way to deploy the advanced smart grid solutions needed to meet current and future needs. With GE’s Grid IQ SaaS and Trilliant’s communication technology, Holly Springs will receive the benefits of advanced smart grid deployments without the high costs associated with owning the smart grid assets and managing the deployments themselves. GE chose Trilliant for Holly Springs due to Trilliant’s proven capabilities in delivering utilities with reliability, speed and bandwidth built into Trilliant’s SecureMesh Communication Platform.

“GE and Trilliant working together is ideal for smart grid deployments,” says Kelvin Buck, mayor of Holly Springs. “We believe GE’s proven leadership and expertise through its Grid IQ SaaS offering, along with Trilliant’s Smart Grid Communications Platform technology, will provide us the best smart grid solutions that fit our unique needs.”

"GE and Trilliant are delighted to be chosen by Holly Springs for their smart grid deployment," says Todd Jackson, product line leader—software solutions, GE’s Digital Energy business. "Our end-to-end solutions, combined with the Trilliant Communications Platform provide Holly Springs with a powerful combination to efficiently and effectively achieve their smart grid goals.”

Trilliant’s SecureMesh, part of the Trilliant Communications Platform, is a powerful combination of wireless networking technologies pre-engineered to work seamlessly together and purpose-built for the smart grid. The Trilliant Communication Platform provides utilities with the flexibility to phase in smart grid deployments to meet the most pressing needs first. Utilities can choose which smart grid applications—Smart Distribution, Smart Metering, or Smart Consumer—they want to deploy first. With one of the industry’s most reliable, highest bandwidth and lowest latency wireless broadband wide area network solutions, the Trilliant Platform allows a utility to deploy not only advanced metering infrastructure today, but also the flexibility to support advanced Smart Distribution applications such as volt/volt-ampere reactive control, fault detection, isolation and restoration and other real-time distribution automation initiatives in the future.

"We look forward to working alongside GE to make sure Holly Springs is successful," says Jim Hanson, vice president of public power at Trilliant. “We are confident that our advanced communications technology combined with GE’s excellent smart grid leadership will help Holly Springs deliver the benefits of smarter energy to its customers."

About the City of Holly Springs

Holly Springs was founded in 1836. It served as a trading center for the neighboring cotton plantations. It was originally called Suavatooky but in 1837 the city was incorporated and renamed Holly Springs and was made seat of the newly created Marshall County. By 1855 Holly Springs was connected to Grand Junction, Tenn., by the advancing Mississippi Central Railway. In ensuing years, the line was completed to the south of Hill Springs. Toward the end of the century, the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroads were constructed to intersect this line in Holly Springs. During the Civil War, the town was used by General Ulysses S. Grant as a supply depot and headquarters. Holly Springs is fortunate in having an Audubon Sanctuary located three miles north of the town where an annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration is held in early September.
