Types of Online Roulette Games (American, French and Others)

March 7, 2023 By GISuser

When you sign up to a fully licensed online casino, especially one that caters to people living in India, you can generally find three main types of roulette; American Roulette, European Roulette, and French Roulette.

You can also then find several other variations of these games with slightly different in-play bonus features, progressive jackpot bonuses, payouts, and betting types/strategies.

Players also now have the option of playing regular online casino roulette, where the fair and realistic outcomes are determined by Random Number Generators (RNGs), or a wide range of live dealer roulette games, where the outcomes are determined by lady luck, NOT by RNGs.

What is roulette?

Roulette is one of the most exciting table games to play at land-based and online casinos. It’s a game of chance played alone. In other words, you don’t have to try and beat the dealer or any other players.

The aim is relatively simple. A tiny roulette ball is spun around in the opposite direction the roulette wheel spins, and you must try to guess which of these slots the ball will come to rest in after it has finished spinning around the wheel.

In European and French Roulette, the roulette wheel has 37 possible outcomes, which includes just one green zero position and 36 different numbers positions (from 1 to 36). In American Roulette, there are two green zeros and the numbers 1 to 36.

When playing online, you must use the player controls to place chips on the roulette betting table based on where you think the ball will land, with odds typically ranging from 1:1 up to 35:1.

However, some online roulette varieties come with special side bets that can pay up to 100:1 or progressive jackpot prize pools that can climb to no upper fixed amount before being won.

A closer look at the roulette bet types and odds

Before you play any online roulette real money games, you must learn the different bet types and the associated odds. In most standard European and French roulette games, they are as follows:

  • A Straight-Up bet: This pays 35:1, which means that there’s only a 2.80% implied probability rate of winning if you place just one Straight-Up bet. 35:1 in the European decimal odds format is 36.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 3,500; in the UK system known as fractional odds format, it’s 35/1.
  • A Split Bet: This pays 17:1 with a 5.60% chance of occurring. 17:1 in the European decimal odds format is 18.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 1700; in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 17/1.
  • A Street Bet: This pays 11:1 with an 8.30% chance of occurring. 11:1 in the European decimal odds format is 12.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 1100; in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 11/1.
  • A Corner/Four bet: This pays 8:1 with an 11.10% chance of occurring. 8:1 in the European decimal odds format is 9.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 800, and in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 8/1.
  • A Line bet: This pays 5:1 with a 16.70% chance of occurring. 5:1 in the European decimal odds format is 6.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 500, and in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 5/1.
  • A Column/Dozen bet: This pays 2:1 with a 33.33% chance of occurring. 2:1 in the European decimal odds format is 3.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 200, and in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 2/1.
  • A Red/Black, Odd/Even, Numbers 1-18, or 19-36 bet: This pays 1:1 (even money) with a 50.00% chance of occurring. 1:1 in the European decimal odds format is 2.00. In the American/moneyline odds format, it’s 100, and in the UK fractional odds format, it’s 1/1.

Don’t forget that you can play online roulette from any modern smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer with internet/Wi-Fi connectivity.

What are the best online roulette games to play in 2023?

Depending on which Indian online casino/sports betting site you sign up to will determine which games you will have access to. For example, bet365 Casino has slightly different games from the 10CRIC Casino website, and Betway Casino has slightly different games from PariMatch, and so on.

Some of the best roulette games to keep an eye out for when you next play at any of these trusted online casinos, all of which have been fully reviewed for you on the official TheTopBookies website, are:

  • Live XXXtreme Lightning Roulette from Evolution Gaming
  • American Roulette from Switch Studios
  • Premium European Roulette from Playtech

There are literally hundreds more fantastic roulette games to choose from. You should also remember that live dealer games are only ever available in the real money mode, and to play games for real money, you must be at least 18 years old.
