Official Name Changes at ArcGIS 10.1 Moving Forward have been announced by Esri. If you happened to have seen the latest edition of ArcNews you may have noticed a note about Names, a comprehensive explanation of Esri’s product/application naming schemes moving ahead. Keeping tabs on names has always been a challenge over the years, particularly with confusion tossed in resulting from the ArcView, ArcInfo, ArcGIS platforms.
To simplify things (hopefully) Esri has settled on the “ArcGIS” standard for naming, most notably, with changes such as ArcGIS Desktop now formally named ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Server now officially ArcGIS for Server. Browsing the changes you’ll also notice that ArcInfo, ArcEditor, and ArcView are no longer in the naming mix.
