The wildfire grew explosively last night (October 21st), quadrupling in size and continuing to spread east today past Grand Lake and toward RMNP. While heavy smoke obscures a large area, Maxar’s satellite was able to focus on the town of Grand Lake and neighborhoods along Shadow Mountain Lake to detect areas that have burned and continue to burn. This set contains before/after images as well as color infrared views of the area. With color infrared satellite imagery, burned areas appear in shades of black/grey while healthy vegetation appear in shades of red/pink. In the link below is a set of a set of images that include today’s Maxar high resolution satellite imagery, the area before the fires, and a NASA Terra/MODIS satellite image from today that shows a broad overview of the area.
