Rapid Data Collection in ArcGIS Gets Quick with ArcGIS QuickCapture

July 26, 2019 By Editor

ESRIUC has come and gone (20 in a row for yours truly) and like many of you, I found I returned home feeling invigorated, enthusiastic, and eager to try some new things and explore technologies I was recently introduced to. One such technology is ArcGIS QuickCapture.

ArcGIS QuickCapture

ArcGIS QuickCapture (Esri) – Easily show real-time location of incidence and your team

Right from the get-go it seemed I was hearing things about Quick Capture, which, I’ll be honest, I knew nothing about upon arrival! Simply put, Quick Capture is a new solution designed specifically for rapid data collection. The application designed using the “mobile-first” mindset, is for those users who are on the go (literally, like in a moving vehicle) and need a simple to use, quick and efficient way to capture data and attributes. At UC the dev team shared that so far, the app is typically used while on the go, it can function in offline mode, provides a WYSIWYG experience and supports the use of your existing feature layers. Quick Capture boasts a simple, single-touch data capture experience that should appeal to a wide audience!

Learn more at https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-quickcapture/overview and if you don’t already, connect with the mobile data team on Twitter @esrisurvey123 as well as @jeffshaner who is a fabulous resource within Esri when it comes to mobile data collection!

Getting started is easy. Simply visit this link (https://www.arcgis.com/apps/quickcapture/projects) and click the Launch button (upper right) – You will need AGOL access as well as some licensing privileges.  We are told from Esri that QuickCapture is included with the ArcGIS field apps bundle for Named Users.- It’s out of R&D and production-ready!

ArcGIS QuickCapture

From Esri documentation… You can create an ArcGIS QuickCapture project from one or more existing feature layers. ArcGIS QuickCapture designer will create a button for every ArcGIS feature template found in your layers. If you aren’t sure about how to create or locate a feature template in your ArcGIS org you will want to consult this document from Esri help.

Feature templates define all the information required to create a feature: the layer where a feature will be stored, the attributes a feature is created with, and the default tool used to create that feature.

arcgis quickcaptureWhen you first launch QuickCapture you’ll be presented with the screen shown above. Note,  QuickCapture Works on Android, iOS, and Windows mobile devices.  Get started by using the ArcGIS QuickCapture designer to author a project or configure the mobile app.
