How Does Retargeting Work & How Does It Help You Sell More Sports Equipment?

August 1, 2024 By GISuser

If you’re in the sports equipment industry, you know your customers are serious about their gear. They’re the kind of people who are ready to invest in products that promise to make them faster, stronger, and quicker. And guess what? Retargeting can give you the same advantage in your sales strategy.

When done right, retargeting not only significantly increases your sales but also gives your online store a serious boost, helping you hit your business goals faster. So, with that being said, let’s answer your question, which is “How does retargeting work?”

How Does Retargeting Work?

Let’s set a scene. A sports enthusiast visits your online store, checks out your awesome gear, but leaves you without buying. You don’t want that. So what’s your solution? How can you bring those visitors back to your website and persuade them to add those items to their cart? Think retargeting!

With retargeting you are able to show those visitors customized ads while they continue browsing online or scrolling through social media. It can be compared to a friend reminding them of a task they had to do – buy those pieces of equipment!

This way – so by seeing the ads showing them the exact pieces of sports gear they were looking at – those who visited yoru website are encouraged to come back and buy from you the items that they are clearly interested in.

What Is Retargeting & How It Segments Your Visitors

Once again, your potential customer checks out your top-of-the-line running shoes but leaves your website without ordering them. Retargeting is your chance to bring the customer back in and give your products another shot at impressing them.

This is what happens when you use retargeting the right way:

STEP #1: When a visitor lands on your website, a tiny piece of code called a “pixel” gets placed in their browser. This pixel tracks their actions, like which sports gear they checked out or which product pages they spend the most time on.

STEP #2: With the data from the pixel, retargeting platforms start showing ads featuring your sports equipment on other websites or social media feeds. In other words, your products pop up as they browse, showing the exact running shoes or fitness gear they were looking at while visiting your online store.

STEP #3: You know that not every visitor is in the same phase of their buying journey. Retargeting lets you sort your audience based on their actions. For instance, if someone looks at baseball bats, they will see only those ads that are specifically for your latest models and deals on baseball gear.

STEP #4: This is where retargeting gets really cool. Dynamic ads can change in real-time to show the exact sports equipment your customer is interested in. So if they check out a specific brand of yoga mats, they will see ads for those exact mats and similar products.

Summary: What Is Retargeting?

When done correctly, retargeting helps you achieve three things: get sales quicker, build a stronger online presence, and hit your business goals way faster.
