NextNav Vertical Location Technology with Floor Level Accuracy Now Available on Ultra-Rugged Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+

Pinnacle Z-axis provides unrivaled critical location data for 911 calls

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Kyocera International, Inc., a leader in rugged mobile solutions, announced today the integration of NextNav Pinnacle vertical location technology into Kyocera’s DuraXV Extreme+ feature phone. Simple and easy to use, DuraXV Extreme+ is designed for those working in harsh environments, such as industrial or construction sites, and is now available in Verizon stores and via Verizon Frontline for public safety and first responders nationwide.

“With Pinnacle, users working in the toughest of environments will have the peace of mind that first responders can pinpoint their floor-level location in an emergency. We’re proud to work with Kyocera to bring this technology to their customers, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have.”

The DuraXV Extreme+ includes a Barometric Pressure Sensor, enabling the use of NextNav Pinnacle’s precise Z-axis capabilities for 911 calls and meeting FCC Z-axis / E911 requirements. NextNav Pinnacle leads the industry in providing precise, highly secure vertical location data that is increasingly essential for emergency services. In independent tests conducted by CTIA to measure Z-axis capabilities, Pinnacle delivered “floor-level” accuracy in 94 percent of test calls, a level unrivaled by any other available technology.

“We are excited to bring NextNav’s cutting-edge geolocation technology to Kyocera’s DuraXV Extreme+ and a wider audience,” said Ambroise Popper, VP and General Manager of NextNav. “With Pinnacle, users working in the toughest of environments will have the peace of mind that first responders can pinpoint their floor-level location in an emergency. We’re proud to work with Kyocera to bring this technology to their customers, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have.”

“Pinnacle gives our customers the most accurate geolocation tools available to help ensure 911 calls are met with the fastest response,” said Vipul Dalal, Divisional VP of Kyocera’s Communications Equipment Group. “Our rugged devices are popular with consumers as well as workers in harsh environments, all of whom can benefit from this technology. First responders are also using our rugged devices, and adding this technology helps ensure they can find each other faster in emergency situations.”

Pinnacle’s availability on DuraXV Extreme+ brings critical data used for 911 emergency services to a broader audience of users and enterprises on the Verizon Network in an ultra-rugged device. Particularly in urban areas or multi-story buildings, dispatchers will be able to more precisely locate where a 911 caller is by adding the vertical dimension alongside their horizontal location of latitude and longitude, and get callers the help they need faster.

In addition to Pinnacle Z-axis technology, DuraXV Extreme+ is a feature phone with several productivity tools including:

  • Improved data transfer speed (Wi-Fi 802.11ac support);
  • Updated Bluetooth 5.1 LE/EDR support for extended connection range and improved power efficiency;
  • Remote Support preloaded application for secure enhanced live technical support;
  • Similar processing power to competing smartphones.

The integration of Z-axis capabilities for E911 calls is now available on DuraXV Extreme+ through a software update for Verizon customers.
