6 Best Live-In Care Jobs To Consider

March 7, 2022 By GISuser

As its name implies, a live-in care job means that you live in the home of your employer. It can be anything from household-related jobs and those in line with medical care. If you feel the perks of living in your employer work for you, then those jobs are definitely worth considering.

When you choose to work in a live-in care job, you’re taking the noble role of giving your boss the care they need. Not only does the receiving care get to enjoy the friendship and companionship of your presence, but they get the extra hands they so badly need. Thus, from your end as an employee, you have to be ready for a lot of hard work.

If you’re keen on applying for live in care jobs, here are some of the best you can consider:

  • Personal Assistant

This type of live-in care applies for employers who have special needs, physical needs, or busy business owners running their company from home. They can use all personal help for whatever needs they have.

For instance, for employers with special or physical needs, your job as a live-in personal assistant is to help them live as independently as possible. And they can still go about their day-to-day lives, but with your assistance, when needed.

As for those who need a personal assistant for work-related tasks, it’s simply like working as an assistant or secretary of a company, only that your employer has made arrangements for you to live with the family, too.

Your tasks can include doing business-related jobs or other functions like running errands, groceries, paying bills, or tutoring the kids. Home care service providers can offer assistance with these everyday tasks, helping to manage your household efficiently and allowing you to focus on other important responsibilities

  • Nanny

If you’re passionate about children and have some experience, certification, or training related to babysitting or working as a nanny, this is another live-in job opportunity to explore.

As a nanny, you’ll be giving round-the-clock child care for the child – often like their second mother. Job functions may include playing with the kids, meal preparation, child care, personal care, sometimes even light housekeeping and homework.

While some nannies are on a stay-out arrangement, many families are now opting to have the nannies live with them.

  • Palliative Care

What is Palliative care? It’s a specialized field of in-home care that focuses on obeying the last wishes and care needs of a patient when they’re terminally ill. To qualify for this type of live-in care job, you may need to have a medical or caregiving background, particularly if you’re going to be involved in their medication.

With palliative live-in care jobs, you also have to offer support and understanding to their family and friends. It can be emotionally challenging, but if you have the patience and compassion for it, then you’re needed in this department.

  • Rehabilitation Worker

Live-in care will also often be asked for patients who may be going through rehabilitation following an accident or an injury. Because they’re no longer physically able to do the daily activities and tasks they used to, it’s on you now to give them that support they need.

Typically, your job will include cooking, personal care, and, if you’re qualified and certified for it, care for the injuries as well. Often, you’ll be working alongside a physical therapist; if you’re not one yourself.

  • Nurse

Nursing and caregiving jobs are also two of the most common and highly in-demand live-in care jobs. You can either live in your patient’s home or live in a care or nursing home.

Clinical tasks are a huge part of your job function. It includes administering maintenance medication for your patient and other medical aspects of their care, depending on their condition.

  • Apartment Managers

Many apartment managers live in one of the units in the apartment complexes that they’re managing. Owners allow this kind of arrangement in exchange for the convenience of tenants having the apartment managers nearby whenever needed.

As an apartment manager, it’s your job to ensure the operations of apartment rentals go smoothly. It can include tasks like checking the premises daily, arranging for plumbing and electrical checks when needed, addressing tenant problems, welcoming tenants in, walking potential tenants who wish to view units, and collecting rent, among others.

Conclusion

Getting employed in a live-in care job is also like performing a job in social care, and more than your expertise, your compassion, patience, and understanding is expected. Yes, there are perks to a live-in care job like food and housing, but there’s a lot expected from you, too. For as long as you know this is the type of job you’ll enjoy doing and one where you can thrive, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t seriously consider this option. Now, it’s on you to start applying for the type of live-in care job you like.
