Maxar Satellite Imagery: Historic Images of 9/11 and the Upcoming 20th Anniversary

September 10, 2021 By GISuser

As we approach this Saturday’s 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Maxar is providing a satellite imagery gallery of a number of the most significant sites that were collected shortly after the 2001 attacks, including: the American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 crash sites at the World Trade Center in New York City; the American Airlines Flight 77 crash site at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the United Flight 93 crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In September 2001, Maxar’s IKONOS satellite was the only high-resolution commercial imagery system in orbit. Additionally, the imagery focuses in on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, days after the U.S. Navy Seals raided the bin Laden compound in 2011.
