CodeBook BIM-enhancing software used with hand-held devices

June 26, 2012 By Editor

June 25, 2012, Portsmouth, R.I. – CodeBook International will be showing off a prototype of its mobile application for building information modeling (BIM) on Stand 14 at the 2012 Revit Technology Conference (RTC US 2012) at Stone Mountain, Georgia on June 28-30. CodeBook Solutions’ CEO Andy Hamer will also be talking to potential new resellers about distribution opportunities.

CodeBook manages information from project inception through to facilities management after project completion. Working with industry standard CAD and BIM tools, CodeBook links to models, shares data and gives detailed reports and validations throughout the design and construction phases of a project. CodeBook then allows the GC to perform commissioning of all rooms and asset data both in and outside the BIM / CAD files via CodeBook Mobile using an iPad, tablet, handheld or computer linked to the internet. Upon completion of the project, the building owner takes possession of a detailed room information database linked to the BIM and/or CAD models and using CodeBook exposes the data to their FM and GIS programs for their CAFM needs.

Launched in November 2011, CodeBook version 10 provides CAD and BIM support for Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011, 2012 and 2013, Revit MEP 2011, 2012 and 2013, AutoCad Architecture 2011, 2012 and 2013, Bentley Architecture V8i, ArchiCAD 15, and MicroGDS 2011. It also supports Microsoft Word and Excel 2007 for reporting purposes; Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit operating systems are both supported, and CodeBook also offers SQL Server as a database option.

CodeBook Solutions’ chief operating officer Cyril Verley will also be presenting at the conference, on Friday 29 June. He will describe how, using CodeBook, BIM and CAD data can be seamlessly exchanged with key owner/operator applications. Verley will also show how BIM and computer-aided design (CAD) data can be combined with geospatial information system (GIS) data to create a rich data resource for facilities managers and other owner/operator professionals involved in managing large or complex buildings. The lecture session is titled: “BIM & CAD to FM & GIS: Workflow and Projects”. It is scheduled for Session 10 on June 29, 2012 @ 4:00pm.

Peter Mann, founder and CTO of CodeBook International, discusses this important launch of CodeBook for mobile devices:

“RTC is a unique opportunity for Revit users to get an independent overview of the whole Revit and BIM ecosystem. Its focus on ‘by users, for users’ reflects our own CodeBook philosophy as hands-on developers of software for design professionals, by design professionals.

“As iPads and other tablet devices have become more widely used in the AEC workplace, we have looked to provide mobile access to CodeBook on-line with our 2012 roadmap to support more distributed team-working. Using browser-based tools for real-time remote access to CodeBook-managed BIM data, architects, engineers and contractors will be able to get faster and more detailed reports and to share new data with fellow designers, constructors, suppliers and building owners and operators.”

CodeBook Solutions, based in San Diego, California, provides a single source of sales, consultancy and support for US architecture, engineering and construction and operation (AECO) customers. Verley elaborates:

“I was one of the first technology consultants to recognize the potential of CodeBook, and have helped firms such as AECOM and Cannon Design adopt the solution to manage complex building projects in healthcare and other markets. CodeBook Solutions is applying this experience to help existing and new customers and property owners use the application efficiently on existing and new projects at the leading edge of BIM.”
