October 20, 2016 By Editor

Storytelling and mapmaking are time-honored traditions that give people powerful and creative ways to communicate information.

Together, maps and stories pack an even greater communicative punch, which is what inspired the development of Esri Story Maps. To learn how to create story maps, tune in to the free Esri live training seminar Inform and Engage Your Audience with Esri Story Maps on October 27, 2016.

Story maps combine authoritative maps, narrative text, photos, videos, and other multimedia content to create compelling stories. These stories can be used to inform the public, colleagues, or project stakeholders. Story maps can highlight places of interest, conservation plans, city attractions and services, development projects, and more. To see some examples, go to the Story Maps gallery.

During the seminar, the presenters will introduce you to the variety of appsavailable in the gallery such as Story Map Swipe, Story Map Spyglass, Story Map Tour, Story Map Series, and Story Map Journal. You will become familiar with the tools Esri offers so that you can build and share story maps, and you’ll get expert advice on how to style your story map to look its best.

After viewing the seminar, you will understand how to

  • Choose the right story map app for the story you want to tell.
  • Create your story map with easy-to-use authoring tools.
  • Manage and share your story maps.
  • Apply tips and best practices to make your story maps stand out.
  • Find the resources you need to tell stories effectively.

The seminar is open to everyone, including the general public, educators, students, GIS professionals, administrators, app developers, and GIS managers.

You will need a broadband Internet connection and an Esri Account to watch the live training seminar. Creating an Esri Account is easy and free: Visit Esri Accounts, click the Create an Account tab, and provide your name and email address.
