GfK’s Map of the Month for July shows the retail turnover growth rate in 31 European countries in 2023.
Across the EU, a total of 5.5 percent more money flowed into the retail sector in 2023 compared to the previous year. In real terms, however, the retail sector recorded a decline in turnover due to continued high consumer prices and consumers’ reluctance to spend. The highest growth rates within the EU were observed in Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria (+18 percent), Romania (+14 percent) and Croatia (+14 percent), with larger markets such as Spain and Poland also recording growth rates of over 12 percent.
