Here Is Why You Shouldn’t Talk to the Police

July 2, 2021 By Editor

Have you ever been in a situation where you were falsely accused or caught up in a brawl, or you were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? If the answer is no, then we hope that you never get into such a situation. But, if you do, you need to remain calm and assess the seriousness of the accusations before you proceed to react.

Many people react according to the heat of the moment and start explaining, defending, or even worse, fighting and hurting back. One of the most important things to know about the police department is that they are trained to obtain confessions. In other words, anything that you say can be and will be used against you – leading to false incarcerations.

The sad truth about today’s imprisonment is that a certain ratio of inmates is falsely incarcerated. Many of them were simply at the wrong place, at the wrong time. That said, if you are innocent and you know it, refrain from talking to the police.

You might be shocked and inconsistent in your statement, which the police can use as evidence of your guilt. Your statements can be taken out of context and result in a misunderstanding that you might find hard to prove in court later.

Will talking to the police make you look guilty?

Talking to the police won’t make you look guilty. Suppose you have been involved in an accident and sustained injuries, you should visit a personal injury lawyer at https://capazlaw.com/.  If it is not your fault, you have nothing to lose since the police officers, judges, and prosecutors all know about the laws very well.

If anyone gets in a situation where they are hurt or accused of something they did not commit, the wise move would be to reach for one’s phone and get in touch with a professional attorney. For instance, if you are being accused of DUI, having an experienced DUI attorney on your side who can protect your rights and can provide an effective DUI defense against any false accusations is very crucial.

What should you do if you are asked questions about some crime you did not commit?

Understandably, it can become a bit challenging to remain calm under pressure, especially when one is being accused of crimes that they didn’t commit in the first place. That said, you should deal with a police officer respectfully and politely that you would like to speak to your attorney and that you would prefer to remain silent and use your right of silence,

These two statements will release the pressure of the police on you.

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is that you should not talk to the police if you want to avoid false incarceration. Step number one should be to consult a lawyer before talking to anyone else, including the accusers and the law enforcement.

We even recommend that you remain silent and don’t respond to your accusers or wrongdoers. Allow your attorney to assess the situation and tell you how to get out of the trouble.
