Everything You Need to Know About Data Virtualization

May 5, 2021 By Editor

Data management is a major topic in computer science, and raw technical data isn’t always the most practical thing to work with. While many database tools like Excel are very useful for referencing data that isn’t otherwise easily accessible, turning that data into something usable can take more effort than you might expect.

Specialized software that can help optimize data in your database in favor of analysis and application exists and can even be integral to an important software project. If you are looking for what data virtualization is and how it can help you, here are some key points to consider.

The Software

Data virtualization software, essentially, is a set of tools that can be used to streamline data analysis. Turning data from the values in an array in your software for presentation or prototyping intended for practical usage is a big step, and this is what data virtualization is all about. If you need to prepare a presentation with up-to-date info, you’re going to need to have an efficient data pipeline to make sure you are representing your project properly. This is especially important if you and your team members need to hold daily SCRUM meetings or otherwise requires daily management updates.

Even if you aren’t working on a particularly time-sensitive project, you’re going to want to streamline your workflow as much as possible while using the appropriate development tools at the outset of a project if you want to get the most out of your workday.

Optimization

Providing consumers with a high-quality data service is important when running a business, so you are going to want to optimize the digital arm of your business as much as possible. This can be done through optimized caching using virtualization techniques. If you were to browse a realty website like Venterra Realty, for example, you are going to want that website to have as much mainframe data processing as possible when responding to your queries. You’re also going to want to make sure the data that you find is as up-to-date as possible so you can make an informed decision.

Any change to that data needs to be passed back to the vendor’s source system database as soon as possible as well. Making use of data virtualization techniques ensures that all of these features can be taken into consideration while making a website as user-friendly as possible.

Real-World Application

The virtualization of data has quite a few practical uses that can be seen every day as well. Video analytics, for example, can be one real-time application that has applications for a variety of different industries. Online video hosting platforms can use data virtualization to analyze the content of videos and categorize them in terms of what individual users are more likely to enjoy in a video based on language, music, and video content. Video, audio, and other sensory surveillance is another such potential application, which can give relevant authorities much-needed information on security threats or other emergencies as they unfold.

While there is no single solution to database optimization, data virtualization can undoubtedly shave time off of projects that would otherwise require an inflated amount of time and resources. There are always cases where other methods can be used, such as lighter-weight projects that need to be run on a smaller scale, since the upfront cost of the improved infrastructure can be an obstacle. Not every piece of hardware that gathers useful data can be virtualized, either, which is worth keeping in mind. Still, the ability to process your business data without getting bogged down in the technical details is well worth investing in.
