Ordnance Survey’s graduate recruitment scheme for 2016 has launched, offering graduates the opportunity to lead the way on developing innovative and inspirational solutions for digital data.
OS is looking for talented, creative and ambitious graduates to shape the future of geospatial data. Today OS is a big data organisation supplying up-to-date, detailed mapping data to customers across the private and public sector. OS data impacts, and underpins, everything from bus routing to online mapping providers and home insurance policies to international sporting events.
Under the scheme OS is looking to find graduates who are hoping to shape a career in geospatial data analytics, software engineering and architecture, data management or cyber security.
Nigel Clifford, OS CEO, commented: “OS began as a start-up in 1791 with just £373 and three men commissioned to draw military maps for Great Britain. Today, we’re one of the world’s oldest big data companies and the information we provide helps people make better decisions, in business, in government and as individuals.

The OS graduate recruitment scheme is now in its fourth year.
Steve Kingston, who joined OS as part of the 2013 graduate programme added: “The OS graduate scheme has provided me with a chance to work with unbelievable mapping data on projects which are making a real difference across Great Britain. I have recently been working on a project called GeoBIM (Geo Building Information Modelling), where I have been supporting a new collaborative partnership between OS and two large construction and infrastructure organisations to drive the adoption of geospatial information with BIM. If you are interested in innovation, data engineering and want to work with experts in the mapping industry then OS is the place for you.”
Ordnance Survey’s Head of Human Resources, Nadine Prior, added: “We want passionate, fresh thinkers to join OS on our digital journey. The challenge is to think, plan and develop the products and services of tomorrow and every one of the graduates will have a role to play. From software engineers working on the next generation of mobile apps to data management experts helping to maintain and derive added value from OS’s enormous geospatial database of 460 million geographic features.”
Working at the organisation’s Southampton head office, the recruits will join a structured two year programme where they will get experience working with different teams across the business, delivering projects, and meeting our customers. The starting salary for each role is £27,000.
