MCRCon Cybersecurity Conference – May 20, 2014

April 21, 2014 By Editor

For Immediate Release MCRCon Cybersecurity Conference Features Industry Leaders

Ann Arbor, Mich. – "Are You Safe in the Internet of Things?" The theme of this year’s MCRCon cybersecurity conference in Ypsilanti focuses on one of today’s most compelling cybersecurity issues: the Internet of Things (IoT). Everything seems to be connected to the Internet. Phones, televisions, appliances, vehicles, eyewear, powerplants, security systems, and more are sending and receiving information. Who’s keeping your information safe?

MCRCon, on May 20, 2014, will feature three prominent speakers from industry to discuss the Internet of Things and other cybersecurity issues:

  • Greg Conti, Director, U.S. Army Cyber Research Center and Associate Professor of Computer Science, United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
  • Chris Roberts, Founder, CISO and CTO, One World Labs.
  • J Wolfgang Goerlich, Vice President of Consulting Services, VioPoint Inc.

"This year’s conference is going to explore the new risks and vulnerabilities we’re seeing in the ultra-connected, always on environment called the Internet of Things," said William "Joe" Adams, vice president of research and cyber security at Merit Network. "Our speakers are going to explore different facets of the IoT. It’ll be an exciting discussion and give our attendees plenty to think about."

MCRCon will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest, which is located at 1275 S Huron Street in Ypsilanti.

During MCRCon, the staff of the Michigan Cyber Range will demonstrate the capabilities of the range and Alphaville, the secure environment that enables users to practice cybersecurity techniques. Alphaville can be used for live-fire cybersecurity exercises and to practice securing SCADA systems, servers, and a variety of IT environments.

Attendees can participate in a capture the flag (CTF) challenge during the event. The CTF event is set in a virtual environment within the Michigan Cyber Range. Participants will navigate through the environment’s heterogeneous network finding clues and collecting flags. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners.

Admission to MCRCon is $75. You can register online at: www.merit.edu/mcrcon/

A discounted hotel room rate of $139 per night is available to event attendees. You can reserve rooms online or by phone at 877-757-7133 or 800-228-9290; identify yourself as part of the Merit Member Conference group. The group rate is available until Friday, May 9, 2014.

The Michigan Cyber Range also offers certification courses for a number of cybersecurity disciplines, with instruction available on-site and live online. A full training schedule may be found at the Merit Michigan Cyber Range web site: www.merit.edu/cyberrange/
