With Hurricane Irene barelling at the Eastern coastline the threat of flooding is definitely a real one. My guess is that the New York, DC, Maryland, VA, MASS area will not be hit directly by a cat 3 or 4 hurricane, however, that doesn’t mean flooding won’t be a problem… residents need to be aware if they are in a flood prone region. From Corelogic the company has released Maps Showing Risk of Storm Surge Flooding from Hurricane Irene in 12 Major Metro Areas. Among the 12 coastal major metro areas included in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) cone of concern and analyzed by CoreLogic, an estimated 1,874,794 properties are at potential risk of storm surge flooding.
Additionally, these data are available as Google KML format for users to use in their maps and mashups. See http://www.gisuser.com/content/view/24326/2/
