NAVTEQ Adds to Crowd Sourcing Portfolio with Trapster

Seems Navteq is beefing up its crowd-sourcing holdings with the reent acquisition of Trapster – recall, Trapster is an application for getting enforcement points and road hazards alerts on your Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, Android, Windows Mobile, Palm Pre, Garmin, or TomTom device. The popular application enables users from around the Globe to share traffic and police related reports with the Global community.

Interesting to note, with Nokia owned NAVTEQ owning the application you have to wonder how the support and development for non-Symbian (and Qt) devices will evolve. I suspect that the iPhone and Android apps won’t disappear from use, however, you have to wonder what lies ahead for future development. No doubt a tighter integration with Ovi map services may be something that we will see from Trapster and added reporting of delays and police stops may be a nice addition to the Navteq Traffic reporter service – I like the idea of getting my daily commuter report from Navteq along with tips about possible police traps along the Interstate…  See more on Autoblog
