Software Rolled Out Across City Enterprise with Great Success
Sandy, UT – The City of Mesa, Arizona, is experiencing numerous improvements across-the-board as a direct result of implementing Cityworks, by Azteca Systems, Inc., the leading provider of GIS-centric management solutions. Teaming with Azteca Business Partner Motorola, Inc., the City initially deployed the system in the Transportation Department and quickly recognized the many benefits the software provided. Mesa soon expanded Cityworks across the organization enabling other departments to realize the same great results.
After months of deliberation on which asset management system would best meet their maintenance tracking and reporting needs, Mesa decided that Cityworks, coupled with the Motorola implementation team, would be their most effective solution. In June of 2008, following a 22-week project implementation – completed on-schedule and within the allocated budget – the City’s Transportation Department successfully went live with Cityworks. "Mesa’s commitment to the project and full participation throughout the implementation process enabled this initial deployment to be so successful," adds Jeff Cegielski, Motorola’s CMMS Product Manager. The initial system supports over 125 Cityworks users with 30+ service request types and 100 work order types. Maintaining large quantities of infrastructure assets, the Transportation Department utilizes Cityworks Desktop and Storeroom to manage over 30 million square yards of paved roads, 10 million square feet of landscaping, 58,000 traffic signs, 1300 miles of street sweeping, and more.
The success experienced in the Transportation Department in its initial Cityworks deployment evolved into the City expanding the system into Mesa’s Utilities Department and an upgrade to a citywide site license. In the spring of 2009, Cityworks was implemented throughout the Water Resources Department. In addition, Cityworks has been integrated with the City’s Customer Information System (CIS) for the purpose of updating caller information through Cityworks service requests. The initial implementation of Cityworks combined with its expansion into these various departments added hundreds of users to the system, demonstrating the overall effectiveness of Cityworks and its flexibility across multiple departments of an organization.
"It is a huge benefit to finally have a centralized system to track our maintenance operations," says Derek Witting, Field Operations Superintendent for the Department of Transportation. "The (Cityworks) system has enabled us to be more proactive in coordinating our activities and assists in identifying and avoiding conflicts."
"Mesa has experienced benefits and improvements provided by Cityworks and grasped the concept of cross-departmental deployment," states Brian Haslam, President of Azteca. "Utilizing Cityworks across the board results in tasks and work being performed smoothly as staff are working off one unified system. The great thing is that Cityworks has the flexibility of being deployed in various departments at once, or at a slower pace with one department at a time, with both approaches being equally effective. The software truly works in whatever way an organization needs for it to best fit their needs."
