Simple GIS Software Releases Update 10.1 for Simple GIS Client

March 14, 2018 By Editor

Simple GIS Software, LLC has announced that it has released update 10.1 to its Simple GIS Client Application, a lightweight but powerful desktop GIS software for Windows PCs, laptops, and tablets.

While providing several bug fixes and performance improvements to its Version 10 release, update 10.1 also provides several new features including:

1.) Support for Tile Mapping Services (TMS).  Now you can add TMS providers as base maps into your map documents.  Simple GIS even comes pre-configured to allow the user to add some of the more popular providers as basemaps.

2.) Simple GIS is now integrated with the US Census Geocoder service and the ©openrouteservice.  This allows users to geocode or batch geocode addresses “out of the box” without users having to first create their own geocoding database.  In addition, users can obtain a free key from the ©openrouteservice which will allow them to use this free service to calculate routes or drive time rings.

3.)  Added support for reading Excel data directly.  Now whether you have an Excel spreadsheet containing street addresses that your want to geocode, or a spreadsheet of data with x and y coordinates that you want to add as an event layer, Simple GIS can read this information directly.

4.)  Easily add calculated geometry fields to your attribute table.  Calculate lengths, perimeters, or areas in the units of your choice and display as a calculated field in your attribute table.

5.)  New measurement tool.  New tool allows you to measure lines or polygons or select features to display their measurement values in the units of your choice, including Acres for area measurements.

6.)  Update to the US Census Data Wizard.  This Wizard now allows you to aggregate several selected fields into a single field in your output shapefile.  For example, if the census data is subdivided into several grouping by age and you wish to combine selected groupings into a single value and store in a single field, the new wizard will allow you to perform that operation.

This is a free upgrade for existing licensed user of Simple GIS Client Version 10.
