Blue Marble Announces Advanced LiDAR Option for the Global Mapper SDK

December 9, 2014 By GISuser

Hallowell, Maine – December 9, 2014 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce a new option for purchasing the Global Mapper Software Development Kit (SDK). This new option allows developers to add advanced LiDAR functionality to the standard SDK product giving them access to a host of powerful LiDAR tools. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

Global Mapper is an affordable and easy-to-use GIS application capable of displaying, converting, and analyzing virtually any type of geospatial data. With the release of Global Mapper v15, Blue Marble announced the LiDAR Module as an optional add-on for Global Mapper. Now Blue Marble is pleased to offer that same advanced LiDAR functionality as an optional add-on to the standard SDK product. With the Global Mapper SDK, developers can leverage these powerful functions from within their own software applications, saving time and money in the development process. The SDK includes both native 32-bit and 64-bit DLL’s, which can be utilized in any Windows operating system.

This optional add-on activates many powerful LiDAR tools, designed to improve the quality of raw point clouds by offering a means to fully utilize significantly more points. Advanced algorithms that distinguish building points and vegetation allow previously unclassified points to be used for precise structural modeling and biomass analysis. Improved ground point detection means that gridded terrain layers derived from these recycled points are generated at a much higher resolution. Also included is an array of post-processing tools that enable querying, filtering, editing, reclassifying, and exporting of LiDAR data.

“We encourage all geospatial programmers to take a look at the Global Mapper SDK,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham, “Whether you’re looking for additional functionality for your software product or a custom project, the tool is powerful and easy-to-use, and for LiDAR, there is nothing like it on the market today.”

Additionally, there are numerous new features and enhancements in the standard SDK product including dramatically faster data processing, support for recording HD fly-through videos, the ability to allow users to create skyboxes in the 3D Viewer, tracking GPS routes in the 3D Viewer, support for 3D textures/meshes and many new 3D formats.
