HopStop Adds Skyhook Location Technology to Android App

July 14, 2011 By Editor

Popular pedestrian navigation app now provides the most accurate location available

BOSTON, MA – July 14, 2011 – Skyhook, the world leader in location positioning, context and intelligence, today announced that HopStop, a leading provider of transit routing, has integrated Skyhook’s Location Engine in its mobile app to augment the native location system in Android.

The newly updated HopStop Android app provides detailed public transit, taxi and walking directions to city residents and tourists alike in 57 major metropolitan areas throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Russia. Whether you’re traveling by bus, subway, train, tram, trolley, ferry, taxi, limo/sedan or walking, HopStop’s popular pedestrian navigation app will get you where you’re going. HopStop is building the first national network to facilitate and encourage intra-city as well as city-to-city travel by aggregating numerous public and private transit systems into one streamlined navigational user experience.

“As one of the largest location-based services, providing accurate and reliable location information is critical to HopStop’s core navigational experience,” said Joe Meyer, CEO of HopStop. “And for this reason we chose to work with an industry leader like Skyhook to further improve our ability to recognize and take action upon a user’s whereabouts. Having such accurate location data will not only enable HopStop to provide the most precise directions, but will also enable us to better target local offers and daily deals to the whereabouts of our users."

“Popular location-based services like HopStop cannot be successful with unreliable location information,” said Ted Morgan, founder and CEO of Skyhook. “Travelers and residents alike often need to find their way around densely populated cities, areas where Skyhook technology is the most accurate system available, and therefore essential.”

HopStop’s app is available for free within the “Travel & Local” category of the Android Market, and can be downloaded here; and is also now available for free in the Amazon Appstore and can be downloaded here.  Skyhook provides an SDK for developers available here.
