Former Nokia/NAVTEQ Executive joins as VP Business Development

May 23, 2013, San Jose, CA: deCarta, Inc., the leading independent LBS technology company announced today that Steve Altman has joined the company as Vice President, Business Development. Mr. Altman was previously VP Consumer Business North America with Nokia L&C (formerly NAVTEQ). He will focus on new strategic business opportunities for deCarta from major customers looking for a truly independent and scalable LBS technology platform to provide customized maps, geocoding, local search and navigation.

Mr. Altman brings along tremendous experience within the technology industry including senior positions as VP Consumer North America at Nokia; Wireless Devices and Accessories VP/GM at Samsung; VP Sales at Sony Ericsson; and Device Management Software as VP Americas at Innopath.

deCarta provides the full spectrum of geospatial technology including geocoding, custom mapping, local search, routing and navigation and has been an LBS technology enabler to the many of the largest LBS apps and services for the past 10 years including Google Maps (2004-2008). Given its ability to process map and POI content from all major suppliers around the world, the company is seeing increased demand from major mobile and internet service providers who want the ability to create their own differentiated LBS offerings with the flexibility to utilize content best suited to their business – including the ability to index and control their own custom content.

In joining deCarta, Mr. Altman commented “I believe the market opportunity is immense for a truly independent LBS technology platform. deCarta has a history of advanced geospatial technology but I think customers are just now beginning to recognize the need and benefits of customized LBS offerings that give them market differentiation, flexibility in app design, and more control over content and costs. I’m delighted to be joining the deCarta team.”

“Steve is the consummate professional who understands how to interpret customer needs, apply technology solutions and create win-win business relationships, said J. Kim Fennell CEO deCarta. “With the increased market demand for global, scalable LBS platform technology we felt it was time to add another executive to the team to complement the superb work of our sales organization.”
