An interesting, new resource from BlueRaster providing health and demographic data… The Spatial Data Repository provides customized national or subnational data on HIV/AIDS, fertility, family planning, maternal and child health, gender, malaria, nutrition, and population projections. Data are provided in a GIS (Geographic Information System) compatible format that allows users to integrate other GIS data to produce new analyses and mapping. All data available come from the USAID-funded MEASURE DHS project and the U.S. Census Bureau. The Spatial Data Repository is supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) effort to provide data for decision making and improve knowledge and understanding of the impact of HIV worldwide.
The Spatial Data Repository provides geographically-linked health and demographic data from the MEASURE Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) project and the U.S. Census Bureau for mapping in a geographic information system (GIS). Spatial Data Repository: GIS users can integrate their own GIS data with the DHS indicators data. Data are provided at the sub-national level in shapefiles. Some of the capabilities of the resoruce include:
- Boundaries of DHS regions can be explored to visualize change over time.
- Data from DHS indicators and U.S. Census population estimates can be downloaded in GIS format.
- Users without GIS software can make interactive maps of DHS indicators at STATcompiler.
Note: All data is available in shapefile and geodatabase format for use in a GIS and includes detailed metadata
