Productivity Hacks for Work or Study

December 19, 2023 By GISuser

Whether you’re working long hours to complete a project or studying intensely for an important exam, it’s hard to be productive over a long period of time. Even the brightest minds and the keenest workaholics can find it difficult to stay focused and remain productive when they’ve been at their desk all day.

With the threat of procrastination looming large and so many fun distractions at our fingertips, it’s a challenge to get crucial work done. If you’re someone that struggles with productivity, you’re not alone. Thankfully, there are lots of useful tips and hacks that might be able to help.

Using the Right Tools

In any job, the right tools are needed for the best results. If you’re trying to put up a shelf, you need a hammer and a set of nails. If you’re trying to write and edit code, you probably need to use something like Notepad ++. While this program is only available for Windows, you can find alternatives if you’re a Mac user.

Notepad plus plus for Mac is available if you run a virtual machine or emulator. However, there are other programs that do a similar job such as Coderunner, Whisk and Brackets. Whichever you choose to go with, make sure it suits the specific needs of your task.

Using the right program for the work you’re doing is one of the simplest ways to boost your productivity. It means you’ll have all the features and functionality that you need and ensures you’re able to work effectively. Always look for alternatives to the program you’re used to using to see if there are better options for you.

Schedule Your Day

Proper scheduling is crucial for productivity, allowing you to plan out your day and get everything done in the right amount of time. Before you begin our day, set out a list of all the tasks you need to complete. Consider the importance of these tasks, and any deadlines if relevant. This will help you rank each task and ensure you only focus on the things that really need doing.

Once you have your schedule set out, make sure you stick to it closely. Failing to follow your arranged schedule may result in you doing more or less than was planned, potentially throwing off your efficiency. If you’re short on time, you can also set time goals for each task that you aim to complete.

Breaking your day up into tasks isn’t just useful for creating a schedule. It also helps you to manage your workload better. Rather than seeing a huge obstacle you need to climb, it breaks it into smaller, manageable steps, allowing you to work at it piece by piece.

Decluttering Your Workspace

Everyone is different, but most research suggests that working in a clean and tidy environment boosts productivity significantly. The most obvious reason for this is that you can easily find what you’re looking for exactly when you need it. Having to dig around through drawers to find a document will only lead to wasted time.

Aside from saving time, having a tidy workspace also leads to better mental health, making us feel more positive and relaxed. It’s a good idea to keep your desk as clear and tidy as possible, ensuring it only features the things you really need to work effectively. Regularly clean your desk, as clutter can easily build up over time.

Take Regular Breaks

When making your work schedule, ensure you plan enough time for regular breaks. Although you might think that working away for hours on end with no break is more effective, we actually lose focus and become less effective over time. Taking regular breaks is advised by most scientific research. Your breaks can be as simple as five minutes to yourself, going for a walk outside or taking an hour to cook a delicious meal.
