28 March 2022: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is pleased to announce that the US Department of the Interior has appointed OGC CEO Dr. Nadine Alameh to serve on the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC). Dr. Alameh will represent the interests of the non-profit sector in the NGAC, and will join 30 esteemed leaders selected to achieve a balanced representation of the various interests associated with geospatial programs and technology.
“We are happy to see Dr. Alameh selected for this critical Committee for the advancement, promotion and adoption of geospatial technologies across the US,” said Jeffrey Harris, Chair of the OGC Board of Directors. “In addition to the non-profit geospatial marketplace perspective, and via her role at OGC, Dr. Alameh brings an international perspective on the geospatial industry, an experience in building public/private partnerships, a deep understanding of the technology and market trends impacting and impacted by geospatial, and an agile development collaborative perspective on IT technologies and standards.”

The NGAC provides advice and recommendations to the US Federal Government related to the management of national geospatial programs, the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, and the implementation of Office of Management and Budget Circular A-16 and the Geospatial Data Act of 2018. The NGAC reviews and comments on geospatial policy and management issues and provides a forum to convey views representative of non-Federal partners in the geospatial community.

The NGAC was authorized under the Geospatial Data Act of 2018. The NGAC operates under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, enacted by Congress in 1972 to ensure that advice rendered to the executive branch by advisory committees, task forces, boards, and commissions formed by Congress and the President, be objective and accessible to the public. The Act formalizes a process for establishing, operating, overseeing, and terminating these advisory bodies.
