Fugro wins multiyear roadway condition assessment contract with Virginia DOT

November 10, 2020 By Editor

Richmond, Virginia, USA, 10 November 2020 – Fugro in the US has been selected by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to perform comprehensive state roadway condition assessments over the next 5 years.

The surveys are essential for efficient road maintenance and they will annually include approximately 18,000 directional miles of interstate and primary highways, as well as a portion of the state’s 48,000-mile secondary road network. County, municipal and toll road agencies can also procure Fugro’s roadway condition assessment services under this contract, benefitting from service rates negotiated by VDOT.

With multiple offices in the state supporting both onshore and offshore operations, Fugro’s new contract builds on their 15-year partnership with VDOT and will be accomplished using the company’s 3D Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) survey vehicles and iVision software. Over the years, Fugro has tailored these technologies to meet VDOT’s needs, with examples including: historical data checks for efficient mobilisation and routing of survey teams; specialised camera equipment for capturing clear imagery of roadside assets; and customised reporting tools to meet specific end-user requirements.

Kalyan Reddy Asam, Senior Pavement Management Engineer for VDOT’s Maintenance Division, said: “Fugro’s familiarity with VDOT’s data collection and processing requirements, and their willingness to work with VDOT when the mileage collection requirements change, makes pavement condition and evaluation projects go efficiently.”

Blaine Thibodeaux, Fugro’s Business Line Director for Land Asset Integrity in the Americas, said: “VDOT is a valued client and we are pleased to continue our partnership with the agency, which manages the third largest road network in the US. We also look forward to expanding our services to other road owners in the state, delivering the Geo-data needed to effectively plan and execute road maintenance for better return on investment and safer, more sustainable roadways.”
