4 Types of Car Technology That Can Reduce Road Accidents

August 11, 2020 By GISuser

The automobile industry has evolved on a massive scale over recent decades, and it continues to do so. New technologies and improved automotive stuff are making cars more comfortable, manageable, and beautiful. But of course, safety breakthroughs have been the primary focus of automotive manufacturers, and they are preventing injuries and saving lives.

4 Types of Car Technology That Can Reduce Road Accidents

Even though the car tech mentioned on this page can prevent accidents, not all collisions can be prevented. If you were hurt in a crash, you should speak to an attorney about your options for pursuing compensation. If you are based in Florida, reach out to Emerson Straw PL for a free consultation.

Let’s get into the details of car tech that can help prevent accidents and totaled vehicles:

Automatic Emergency Braking

The automatic emergency braking, or AEB, is a very beneficial feature that can save a driver from serious impact. It can assist them in using the maximum braking capacity of the car. In case the situation becomes critical, the AEB system can act independently and brake on its own.

The system comes in three categories to prevent accidents in various situations. They are:

  • Low-Speed: The low-speed system is designed for driving around the city where the cars are closer.
  • High-Speed: The high speed is designed for highways and freeways where the vehicles are further away. It can scan up to 200 meters ahead.
  • Pedestrian: This system picks up pedestrian movement and determines the risk of collisions.

There is another braking assist technology called ABS, which stands for Anti-Locking Braking System, that improves vehicle traction on sudden brakes.

Auto-Steering

This doesn’t mean a simple power steering or one that can drive itself. The auto-steering is an incredible feature that can take control of the steering in particular situations to avoid collisions, all while maintaining the same traffic lane. Many of these systems work side-by-side with the automatic emergency brakes.

Reverse Cam

The reverse camera isn’t new tech, but the drivers previously had to get it installed from third parties into their cars. Nowadays, many cars come with the system pre-installed.

Parking and reversing accidents are incredibly common, which is why this camera can be incredibly helpful. It can help the driver see precisely what is behind their car. The markings on the screen can assist them in determining how close something or someone is to the back of their vehicle. The camera is usually accompanied by a rear cross-traffic alert that beeps faster as the object or person gets closer. For drivers looking to enhance their skills and safety on the road, resources like Georgia driver improvement courses can provide valuable insights and strategies.

Autonomous Cruise Control

The cruise control feature has been useful for cars for a long time. It is an excellent feature that can make long-distance driving much more comfortable.

There were certain issues with the system that made it somewhat of a hazard for many drivers. That’s where the autonomous cruise control, or ACC, comes in.

This system can automatically adjust your car speed to maintain a safe distance with the car ahead of you. That means you won’t have to slam the brakes in a hurry if the car in front decides to slow down all of a sudden.
