Minute-by-Minute Analytics for GIS Maps

April 30, 2018 By GISuser

Prince George, BC – Maptiks, the leading platform for web map analytics, is updating its analytics tool with new features that make it easier to track visitors and engagement metrics.  Their latest software update gives users the ability to track visitor interactions on a minute-by-minute basis.

Minute-by-Minute Analytics for GIS Maps

For the first time, Maptiks users will be able to track visitors on their web mapping applications and their interactions in near real-time. With web map analytics, geospatial teams can track metrics that help indicate the success of their application and keep their stakeholders informed.

Getting near real-time reporting proved to be a technical challenge as explained by Will Cadell. “Our team pushed the technical boundaries on our latest release. Unlike Google Analytics, which only records a visitor’s session, we are capturing all of their interactions, clicks, zooms etc. on the map. So we’re recording a hundred or so data points per visitor. Aggregating all of this data on the fly posed a real challenge. Our developers used DynamoDB’s newly released auto scaling capabilities and AWS Lamda to increase aggregation speeds at scale. This means that every few minutes our users will have an updated view of visitors on their web maps, including interaction metrics, layer load times and more, to help better understand how their maps are performing in the real world.”

In addition to minute-by-minute analytics, Maptiks also announced two additional Esri integrations, with Esri’s Web App Builder and Story Maps. They now currently support ArcGIS Online, Esri Leaflet, Esri JS, Web App Builder and Story Maps.

Maptiks is a geospatial company based out of Prince George, BC. Built by Sparkgeo, Maptiks provides analytics for geospatial applications using Esri’s ArcGIS Online, Web App Builder and Story Maps. It also integrates with Mango, Google Maps and open source GIS  libraries. It’s built to measure how users interact with web maps increasing map conversions so they can build a better map.
