GeoConnections is pleased to inform you about a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) “Arctic Spatial Data Pilot“.
GeoConnections is a national partnership initiative led by Natural Resources Canada designed to facilitate access to geospatial information in Canada through the development and use of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The CGDI helps decision-makers from all levels of government, the private sector, non–government organizations and academia make better decisions on social, economic and environmental priorities. North of 60 degrees, the Arctic Spatial Data Infrastructure (Arctic SDI) is being built for Canada, North America, and with all circumpolar nations under the auspices of Arctic Council. GeoConnections is concentrating its efforts to evolve and further develop the hard infrastructure (e.g. satellite reception facilities and data networks), the soft infrastructure (e.g. governance at the national and international levels), the operational policies and interoperability standards to further the CGDI and Arctic SDI to realize the full potential of location-based information.
With support from GeoConnections and the United States Geological Survey, the OGC has launched a project entitled “Arctic Spatial Data Pilot”. The project will link North of 60 stakeholders with the extensive expertise of the global OGC community to build and demonstrate the diversity, richness and value of standards-based approaches through piloting activities and communication products over a two-year period.
During the first phase of this project, the OGC is releasing an RFI to define the core components of the Arctic SDI architecture. The OGC is making this RFI open to all organizations with an interest in the Arctic. Responding organizations may have an interest in proposing their use case of Arctic data or web services, contributing to an inclusive Arctic SDI architecture and/or providing data or geospatial services relevant for the Arctic.
GeoConnections encourages Canadian Arctic stakeholders to respond to the OGC RFI by the closing date of March 18, 2016. For instructions on how to respond to the RFI, please visit the RFI press release page: http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/2381
