An interesting project from ChattyMaps enables users to visualize the sounds of the city. Browse the urban sound maps to view an index rating of the dominant sounds for any street within the range of the project.
More about the project… “we study the relationship between soundscapes and people’s perceptions and, in so doing, we are able to map which areas are chaotic, monotonous, calm, and exciting. Those insights promise to inform the creation of restorative experiences in our increasingly urbanized world.”
Clicking on a street segment brings up a box that reveals the street name, a classification, predominant sound, and a sentiment ranking for characteristics like trust, fear, joy, sadness and more! Each of the maps is color-coded to reveal what kind of noise is present from street to street. Blue is associated with human-related sounds; red with transportation; green with nature; green with nature; yellow with music; and grey with construction.
