Gaithersburg, MD –MDA Information Systems LLC announces the launch of BaseVue 2013 a global land use/land cover (LULC) product.

BaseVue 2013 is the most up to date consistently prepared moderate-resolution LULC dataset derived from spectral analysis of consistently
orthorectified Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) imagery
BaseVue 2013 is a commercially available, global, 13-class LULC product developed by MDA. The product covers Earth’s entire land area, excluding Antarctica, and is comprised of approximately 19,250 1×1 degree tiles. BaseVue is independently derived from roughly 9,200 Landsat 8 30m resolution images. MDA extracted 13 land cover classes from these 9,200 Landsat scene in an automated process. For CONUS, MDA has produced a recoded version of the most recently available National Land Cover Database product created by the US Geological Survey.
BaseVue in conjunction with other datasets serves a variety of uses such as:
- Cartographic basemap
- Urban and population studies
- LULC to support field operations and infrastructure planning for energy and communications sectors
- Assessing likely concentrations of insect-borne illnesses
Greg Koeln, MDA’s CTO, stated: “MDA Information Systems has a long history of producing National and Global LULC products from Landsat data for the US Government. We are pleased to offer this LULC product to our commercial customers.”
