The World Map Kit SDK in contrast to the online edition allows you to host the maps yourself for greater control and offline application scenarios. The World Map Kit SDK comes with pre-built rendering classes in C# and a 100GB map data set covering the entire world. Since the World Map Kit SDK includes source code, this allows developers to modify the rendering of the maps and add custom data to the map if they wish.
OpenStreetMap is a community-driven crowd sourced map data project that includes very detailed data for many parts of the world. Anyone with an OpenStreetMap account can contribute directly to OpenStreetMap.org.
