Government Shutdown Effect – No Seasonal Flu Maps from the Center for Disease Control (CDC)

October 3, 2013 By Editor

There’s no doubt that the effects of the US Government shutdown and furlough of tens of thousands of contractors and employees has far reaching effects. Most of us are aware that most government agencies rely on GIS and geotechnology for supporting decision making and much more.

Once agency that is typically watched by the public quite closely this time of year is the Center for Disease Control (CDC) . Well, with the shutdown the CDC is reporting that the public Flu maps and supporting website will not be updated. Typically, there are weekly or almost weekly updates posted to http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm

The following message has been posted on the CDC flu website:

Due to the lapse in government funding, only web sites supporting excepted functions will be updated unless otherwise funded. As a result, the information on this website may not be up to date, the transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted.

Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at http://www.usa.gov.
