I always make a point of stopping by the HP booth at UC to see the latest hardware and solutions from the group (it’s always great meeting up with folks from Fort Collins too!). This year was no exception as I spent about a half hour getting the low-down on some awesome hardware and solutions.
It was tough to leave as there was so much to see including the the HP Designjet T1500 – think 2 roll, web connected, wide format E printer; Workstations, Thin Clients, and some clever, portable display technology.
Vastly superior to the HP pen plotters that put me through College (yes I spent many a late night baby sitting the plotter as I churned out hundreds – perhaps thousands – of plots), but hey, someone had to do it!) The T1500 provides an awesome user experience thanks to such innovative technology like:
- Self cleaning
- support for 2 sizes of ink cartridge
- cleverly designed stacking tray
- easy paper roll change
- flat surface for quick plot checking
- Prints in 21 seconds (D size)
- Massive 320 GB hard drive
- cloud support (think ePrint) and mobile printing from anywhere via Android or iOS
- There’s even the ability to print via Dropbox or you can link your plotter to a special email address to receive plot files!

HP Workstations
HP isn’t just about plotters, they also have some sweet workstation solutions that would appeal to the hard-core Geo / tech professional with heavy demands for memory, speed, and efficiency. A definite “WOW” solution in the workstation market is the HP Z1 – a 27″ all in one hardware solution that even snaps open for easily
I got a hands-on demo of this and I have to say it was quite awesome! For those power users with heavy demands for performance, HP workstation group has the Z220 through Z820 family, ideal for users who demand power, speed, memory and more, particularly those with a need to work with massive image files and in a 3D environment. The boxes are sleek, expandable, relatively small, and provide all the options for peripheral connectivity that you could need.
Something that’s really clever and integrated with the HP workstations is the performance advisor software. This is a very user friendly solution that enables any professional, even those not so tech savvy, to configure and manage their workstation in optimal conditions, all from a user friendly environment.

Cool Display Technology
Something that got my eye was a cool, portable display monitor sitting at the HP booth. The HP U160 is a sleek, portable, lightweight (under 2 lbs), flip and fold monitor that anyone can easy tote around with them to give a demonstration on or pack up to take to a conference or other event. The unit is 15.6″ in size and has backlit technology built in. Very clever and less than $170!

HP Thin Clients
Finally, a surprise find for me on the floor was a clever thin client solution from HP, the T610 – Powerful, small, flexible, and innovative! Heavy on memory and flexibility, the thin clients come standard with 2GB of memory (up to 4 GB of Flash), network support, and weight in at under 4 lbs!

As always, great technology from HP!
