Hosted map services provider emapsite has won a place on the UK government’s third generation ‘G-Cloud’ supplier framework.
The Cabinet Office accreditation gives a further route for government departments, local authorities and other public sector bodies to access geographic web services.
emapsite’s listing follows the May 2013 launch of the G-Cloud iii framework which was timed with a Ministerial mandate that government procurers should now think ‘cloud first’ when choosing IT solutions.
emapsite was first awarded a G-Cloud place at the framework’s launch in February 2012 with its established ‘emapsite inside’ capability approved under the Software as a Service (SaaS) umbrella. In the new CloudStore supplier catalogue, emapsite inside is also discoverable under the Geographic Search tag.
James Cutler, CEO at emapsite, said: “emapsite inside very much aligns with the ‘cloud first’ mandate for central government and Ministers’ strong recommendation that the rest of the public sector should think that way too. Our capability also aligns with both the Public Sector and One Scotland Mapping Agreements (PSMA/OSMA) which many public sector bodies have signed in order to gain access to Ordnance Survey data.
“emapsite inside expands our established G-Cloud presence with an array of content and services that enable public sector entities to make the most of Ordnance Survey data. At its heart sits the comprehensive, up-to-date, cost effective and overhead-free PSMA data stack including OS MasterMap and OS VectorMap Local.
“Supported by the most up-to-date address search capability, our hosted map service delivers Ordnance Survey and other data for use by civil servant or citizen alike within their diverse application base across desktop, mobile and web platforms.”
emapsite’s web services architecture is based on standards in support of rapid integration and inter-operability including OGC WMS, WMTS and WFS protocols for geographic data visualisation.
The G-Cloud iii listing is the latest recognition of the benefits of emapsite’s cloud services following other major public sector contract wins. These include local authorities, the Welsh Government and Registers of Scotland where emapsite was part of an SME consortium led by systems integration specialist Informed Solutions.
Mr Cutler added: “We specifically designed emapsite inside to help with the discovery, delivery and sharing of location content. It’s ideal for public sector organisations that need to access and distribute geographic data.”
