TCS Hosted Xypoint Location Platform Replaces nTelos Infrastructure for Location-Based Services

November 29, 2012 By Editor

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced the successful deployment of its Xypoint Location Platform (XLP®), which now supplies nTelos wireless with mobile Location-Based Services (LBS) infrastructure. nTelos wireless needed a flexible replacement solution that could be supplied rapidly while providing subscribers with uninterrupted location services.

The XLP is a standards-based location infrastructure which provides both cell-ID and precise A-GPS location and is hosted in the industry’s only TL-9000 certified hosting facility. This comprehensive and scalable hosted solution consists of hardware, software, maintenance and around-the-clock operation. With this all-inclusive LBS infrastructure, nTelos wireless will continue to provide precise location information for applications for its customers while avoiding operational and logistical burdens.

With the addition of nTelos wireless, TCS now supplies its XLP location platform to 35 mobile operators worldwide. Berg Insight’s recent LBS platform study identifies TCS as the global leader in providing precise location infrastructure to mobile operators.

TCS’ ability to quickly deploy a complete hosted location infrastructure – as well as a suite of LBS applications such as navigation, family finder and workforce locator – helps mobile operators reduce time to market, lower implementation costs and eliminate integration problems associated with new location services, achieving a higher return on investment in record time.

Supporting Quotes:

  • Lynne Seitz, vice president of location products, TCS, said: "It was imperative that nTelos achieve its long-standing commitment to delivering the best customer value and the best customer experience while going through this LBS transition. As other location service providers exit the market, often with little warning, TCS’ ability to step in and quickly transition location services has become as valuable to operators as the quality of our technology solutions. We look forward to delivering location services to meet the needs of nTelos for many years to come."
  • Conrad Hunter, chief operating officer, nTelos Wireless, said: "In order to provide our customers with the applications and location-based services they desire, we selected TCS for its easy-to-implement, hosted service to meet our deadline. We are very pleased that TCS has been able to provide our subscribers with access to their favorite LBS applications without interruption."
