The Islands Trust has launched a new online mapping system, called MapIT, that can be accessed at its website http://www.islandstrust.bc.ca/
Island Trust staff have assembled mapped data over several years in cooperation with several other agencies.
MapIT puts it all in one place, matches it to legal property lines and makes it easily accessible to the public.
The new mapping interface provides many new features, such as more frequent updates of geographic information and simple, fast and informative data exploration and discovery tools.
The Trust has provided several how to tutorial videos to help users get started. Additionally, a number of Trust area maps are available as downloadable PDFs. The system provides ecosystem mapping and Land Use Mapping services to the end user.
The Trust website is a little tricky to navigate, with a number of references to the mapping apps, however, finding the exact link to launch the app(s) is tougher than it needs to be. About halfway down this page see the area that reads:
To Launch Mapit select from one of the following Application Links
clicking the ecosystem mapping app link launches the WMS and you’ll then expose a very nice service. The UI is awesome, easy to navigate and has some great functionality. Toggle on / off several layers (See Layers / Layer Manager) of information including contours, properties, topos, imagery, roads, and more… nice stuff!
