Thinking about heading to the Colorado Front Range for this year’s OpenSource Mapping Love Fest aka. FOSS4G? Perhaps you’ve been giving it some thought but are still undecided. Check out this fine video put together by Tyler Mitchell and all the other GeoGeeks involved with planning the event and perhaps they might convince you to book your travel. If that video isn’t enough then I suggest you give this blog post by Peter Batty a read… if anything Peter’s comments will definitely encourage you to pause for a moment and seriously ask yourself if Open source solutions can play a part in your organization. Another thought leader, James Fee, has also offered up his thoughts on FOSS4G and has penned a blog post on why you can’t afford to miss out on FOSS4G 2011. Finally, FOSS4G planning team member Brian Timoney has also offered up some compelling reasons for you to consider heading to FOSS4G in a post titled Cooking Up a Geospatial Business Model In A Web World which was recently published on his Mapbrief blog.
Finally, a few compelling reasons that I can suggest for heading to FOSS4G include: the addition of a special day specifically for those new to Open Source or pondering making the leap to Open Source and the impressive list of presenters that include: Peter Batty, Steve Coast, Dr. Carl Reed, Schuyler Erle, Paul Ramsay, and Brion Timoney. There’s a fabulous lineup of hands-on workshops led by industry leaders and brilliant minds. Oh, and you’ll also likely have many opportunities to drop a micro brew or two with loads of cool GeoGeeks at the Wynkoop brewpub… who can’t resist that?
