San Francisco / Munich, December 1, 2010 – Today junaio announced its red hot new 2.5 Release which encapsulates state-of-the-art mobile Augmented Reality features well ahead of its competition, cementing its lead as the most advanced AR browser available today.
Most other mobile browsers just paste location based text messages or simple graphic overlays onto the camera view. For the demands of commercial use, this is simply not enough. Indoor navigation, image recognition, object tracking, attaching correctly scaled, interactive 3D displays onto objects , those are features which set junaio apart. The new release comes wrapped into a much improved graphical user interface, easier channel navigation and pinpoint geographic filtering.
People carry smartphones with them at all times, and through applications like junaio will come to rely more and more on these small devices for useful information. "No other technology is better suited than AR to display easy to access, location or image sensitive information to mobile users", says Peter Meier, CTO of metaio, the creators of junaio. "The 2.5 release is a significant step forward for us. It outclasses what`s in the market today and moves us towards our goal of becoming the dominant AR browser."
The popular location sensitive services displaying points of interest around the viewer`s location are of course only one of the many features junaio contains. Indeed, with the technology junaio has to offer it is no wonder that more and more major brands and developers are partnering with junaio. Some of them are currently building quite revolutionary ad campaigns around junaio`s unique capabilities. Print ads can be enriched with full videos shows, added product information, fun games or coupons for special offers. Interactive, moving 3D models can be "glued" onto objects or products, correct in scale and position even when the camera angle changes.
A recent example where image recognition and the junaio "glue" has been used by a sponsor is the GSM Association`s ad campaign for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February of 2011 placed in key publications like TIME Magazine, Fortune, WSJ, The International Herald Tribune, Telecom2.0, Vanilla Plus, Wireless Week and others. When viewed through junaio (see image) the ad will trigger a 3D App Planet circled by satellites, which can be clicked to display further information about the conference`s scope and themes.
Similarly, amNewYork, Manhattan`s most distributed daily newspaper, and Connecticut Magazine have recently launched AR augmented content using junaio, some of it editorial, other as advertisements. Both publications are excited about junaio`s technology as a means of extending their print content with interactive multimedia information and have indicated they will continue to do so in the future.
Intel used junaio`s indoor navigation feature to guide visitors through the Intel Developer Forum recently held in San Francisco. The combination of indoor navigation and image recognition is great for getting information on objects inside a museum, for example, or to check out details on a product in the supermarket.
"During the last ten years of intensive research into Augmented Reality, we are proud to have become a worldwide leader of this exciting technology", says Peter Meier. "junaio encapsulates our know-how and advanced technology like no other AR browser in the market. With release 2.5 we have capped this with a sleek brand-new GUI and much improved navigation to help users to get at the info they need as quickly and as easily as possible, usually with no more than three clicks."
The new junaio home screen offers a choice between location-based and object-based functionality, allows memorising his favourite channels, reviewing his personal channel history, displaying a simple user tutorial or browsing "Featured Picks" for the area where he happens to be. All interfaces have been redesigned for intuitive handling and ease of use, the search function allows keyword search by channel content as well as channel name and the view screens have been simplified using unobtrusive buttons and icons in order to allow almost unrestricted content viewing.
"Release 2.5 represents the code base for the new things to come", adds Peter Meier. "Because we are not stopping here. There are currently quite a few things cooking in our development pipeline. So, stay tuned!"
