Call for Papers – Canadian Association of Geographers GIScience Study Group Special Sessions

The coming Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers will be held in Waterloo, Ontario, from May 28 to June 2, 2012, hosted jointly by Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo

CAG’s GIScience Study Group is organizing a series of special sessions related to applied and theoretical developments in GIScience and spatial analysis. Special sessions will be organized around four themes described below.

Spatial Modelling (Session Chair: Dr. Carson Farmer)

  • Advances in the theory and practice of spatial models in all forms of geographical inquiry
  • Participatory modelling, simulations, agent-based models and cellular automata, econometric models, spatial-temporal models, multi-level models, Bayesian models, transportation models
  • Dealing with massive spatial datasets: ‘big data’ models and modelling frameworks

Spatial Ecology and Epidemiology (Session Chair: Dr. Colin Robertson)

  • Disease mapping, cluster detection and modelling & disease surveillance
  • Spatial risk and exposure analysis
  • Spatial analysis of species distributions, range expansions, and dispersal processes

Developments in GIScience (Session Chair: Dr. Tarmo Remmel)

  • 3D analyses
  • Spatial pattern analysis
  • Lidar

Movement Data & Analysis (Session Chair: Mr. Jed Long)

  • Transportation GIS and associated applications
  • Time geography
  • Methods for analysis of human mobility patterns, wildlife movement behaviour, and novel movement data examples

If you would like to contribute to this stream of sessions, please register for the conference and submit your abstract online (http://env.uwaterloo.ca/cag2012/en/). Include the title of this session track: GIScience Study Group Special Sessions when submitting your abstract to the conference website.
