The best places to shop in Singapore

November 19, 2021 By GISuser

Shopping is a favorite pastime for many Singaporeans and tourists alike.

With the number of shopping malls in Singapore increasing every year, you will be spoiled for choice when deciding where to shop in Singapore.

Although there are many shops and stores located throughout the island, some places stand out from the crowd as being especially good for those looking for quality products or those wanting value for money. This article includes a list of places where to shop in Singapore.

  1. Bugis Street

Bugis street is the place to find great bargains on fashion that is currently trendy with young local shoppers. Every night, young people flock to the many stalls selling clothes and shoes, bags, and jewelry. Prices are highly negotiable here, so do not hesitate to ask for a discount if you consider buying more than one piece of clothing in the same stall. When bargaining at Bugis Street, it is better to produce a local friend who can help you in your negotiations and say they will purchase the item from the vendor at a lower price. This may work well when shopping for jewelry or accessories such as belts and handbags, which most Singaporeans perceive as not having high resale value. For more ideas you can visit this site https://www.changiairport.com/en/shop/shopping-directory.html.

  1. Chinatown

Chinatown has been making headlines in recent years with its rapidly increasing number of luxury retail outlets.

This historic district is trendy among the wealthy and well-traveled due to its distinct exotic atmosphere. While most of the shops in Chinatown are high-end, they also offer good value for money for visitors who spend time browsing their wares and asking about special deals. Shopping in Chinatown will undoubtedly provide a “more the merrier” experience with friends or family as you can split up and cover more ground while looking at all of the different items available. The shopping environment here is much more relaxed than in other parts of Singapore, so do not be surprised if sales assistants wait for you to make up your mind or at least take some time out of your busy day. Just have a look around without being pressured into buying anything.

  1. Bugis Street/ Arab Street

Although the main shopping areas in this part of town are Bugis street and Arab street, shoppers may wish to check out some of the other roads in the area.

These include Haji Lane and Bali lane, which offer a selection of unique stores selling a range of goods from shoes and bags to locally designed clothing items. Prices tend to be expensive, so do not expect these shops to have bargains or low-end products for sale. A local friend can come in handy if you would like help sourcing any particular item, but it is also quite likely that they will get their shopping done while doing yours!

  1. East Coast Park/ East Coast Lagoon

East coast park and the surrounding areas of Katong, Siglap, and Marine Parade are known for their beachside seafood restaurants. While not a well-known shopping destination, this town is home to some excellent stores offering great bargains on locally designed bags, clothing, and shoes. The prices here tend to be considerably higher than in other similar locations. Still, there is no need to worry about bargaining here as items sold at high-end retail outlets in this area do not usually come with a price tag. It is better to pay for your item or ask if any special deals are available before leaving the store.

  1. Orchard Road/ City Hall Area

It may come as a surprise to some that the city and central business district (CBD) is also one of Singapore’s best retail destinations. The variety of stores along this stretch of road in the city area is virtually limitless, and you can find everything from ready-to-wear clothing items to custom-made designer jewelry. A bonus when shopping at these outlets is that many shops offer free local delivery for purchases over a certain amount, so do not be shy about asking if you could save some money by having your item sent straight to your home.
