Satellite Imagery from @Maxar : Cameron Peak Wildfire, Colorado

October 18, 2020 By Editor

Maxar collected new high-resolution satellite imagery yesterday (October 16th) of the Cameron Peak Fire that continues to burn and spread dense smoke over the Front Range of northern Colorado.

The fire has become Colorado’s largest wildfire in history; moreover, extreme winds (near 80mph) are predicted tonight in the area. In the link below, you can download a set of current images that show the extent of the fire as well as close up views of the fire lines. I also included today’s NASA MODIS satellite imagery which shows a broader view of the area and the smoke that continues to spread across northern Colorado and north Denver.

Note that with several of the images, color infrared satellite images are included. With this type of imagery, healthy (not burned) trees and vegetation appear in shades of red/pink while burned areas appear black/grey.
