Exprodat Wins Esri Award at Business Partner Conference 2016

March 23, 2016 By GISuser

Exprodat, the oil and gas ArcGIS platform specialist, has won a coveted Esri Partner Award for its recent work in creating the “New Russian Gas Exports Projects” Story Map.

A team from Exprodat were in Palm Springs for the Business Partner Conference and were delighted to be presented with the award by Esri CEO Jack Dangermond, Head of Sales Chris Cappelli and Director of International Operations Dean Angelides.

Exprodat worked in partnership with the world-renowned Centre for Strategic and International Studies(CSIS) in Washington, DC to develop a new way of presenting a traditional written report. The report chosen was “From Pipe Dreams to Pipelines” by Edward Chow and Zachary Cuyler which investigated the host of yet-to-be completed new pipeline projects currently taking place in Russia.

The aim was to improve the reader experience and ensure that the geographic context of the report’s data could be more easily understood. Exprodat consultant, Simon Kettle, had the idea to convert the CSIS report into an Esri Story Map, called New Russian Gas Exports Projects, and he worked with both CSIS and the Exprodat marketing team to complete this.

Chris Jepps, Technical Director of Exprodat, takes up the story as to how the map was developed and what the award means to the company: “In the last year or so we’ve invested a lot of time in getting our staff up-to-speed with the ArcGIS Platform, including running treasure hunts using the Collector and Operations Dashboard apps and holding an internal Story Map competition.

This led to Simon proactively developing the ‘New Russian Gas Exports Projects’ Story Map in partnership with CSIS, and in turn demonstrating what a powerful communication tool Story Maps can be. They really are a great way of making GIS available to everyone.

We look forward to further projects with CSIS and of course we were delighted to receive the ‘Best Use of Story Maps outside the Enterprise’ award from Esri at the recent Partner Conference on behalf of everyone who worked on the project, especially Simon, Edward and Zachary.”
