Announcing the International Women’s Day Mapathon

March 4, 2016 By GISuser

OpenStreetMap North Puget Sound Meetup group’s inaugural event is for those interested in mapping. The event is part of International Women’s Day, and will be lead by Kate von Krusenstiern, a WWU graduate.

This meet up is designed not only to introduce mapping fundamentals through OpenStreetMap (OSM), but further educate those interested in developing their geospatial skills. The meeting is being held on March 8th at in the Huxley Spatial Analysis Computer Lab of Western Washington University, in AH-16 Autzen Hall on the WWU campus, and is from 6 PM to 9 PM. In the course of our session, we will give an explanation of OpenStreetMap, introduce the online editor, and conclude with an outside mapping session.

We know the immense benefits of participating in our community — and through OSM, we aim to share the opportunity to shape the world’s map, guide technical training, encourage access to a global network and promote professional opportunities. To participate, many of us enjoy privileges that are denied to millions of women and girls around the world, including digital literacy, access to the Internet, and the luxury of free time to edit OpenStreetMap.

You can sign up on our Meetup page, http://www.meetup.com/OpenStreetMap-North-Puget-Sound/events/228795693/

If you’d like to learn more about mapping while enhancing your community, this event is for you.
