Cadcorp launches Notice BoardTM a responsive smart searching product for local government websites

September 22, 2015 By Editor

LONDON, United Kingdom, 22 September 2015 – GIS and web mapping software developer, Cadcorp, announced today the immediate availability of Notice BoardTM, a responsive smart searching product for local government websites. The announcement was made at Cadcorp’s annual Local Government Conference, Camden Lock, London.

Notice Board enables a local authority to add a mobile-friendly spatial searching capability to their existing website. Cadcorp has developed the product on the premise that many people who visit a council website, are not browsing, but are looking for information about a particular locality – very often their home address or current location. For example, they want to know what day their green waste is being collected or they would like to find out the contact details of their councillor. They want answers to questions such as these to be presented as quickly and simply as possible.

Notice Board addresses this need displaying the information which is most commonly requested by visitors to a council website. It uses advanced spatial search techniques in order to generate personalised responses for each visitor to the site based on their location; either an address entered by the user, or a geolocation captured by their mobile device.  Search results are summarised as ‘notices’ pinned digitally on a single page of the council website. Users can request more detailed information, including maps, by clicking on hotlinks within a notice. Notice Board detects when a website is being accessed from a mobile device, and it will adjust the screen layout accordingly.

Cadcorp see Notice Board as a valuable extension to an existing council website. It is able to draw dynamically from the spatial information which a council already has in place to support local service delivery.  Notice Board is a server based application and does not require any installation on PCs or mobile devices accessing the system.

Martin McGarry, managing director, Cadcorp, summarised why Notice Board should find favour in a local government sector which having to do more with less: “Notice Board provides an opportunity to improve a citizen’s experience of accessing a local government website. In doing so it encourages online self-service as the channel of choice and offers the prospect of making a significant contribution towards reducing the cost of customer interaction.”
