52 AICP-CM Credits Approved for URISA’s GIS-Pro & NWGIS 2015 Conference

Des Plaines, IL (September 17, 2015) URISA’s GIS-Pro & NWGIS 2015 Conference was recently approved for 52 AICP-CM credits, including .5 law and 1.0 ethics credits. The conference, taking place in Spokane, Washington during the week ofOctober 18th, features workshops, dozens of breakout sessions, keynote addresses and more.

Approved AICP-CM credits range from 8.5 for participation in full-day URISA workshops (Introduction to Public Participation GIS  and Cartography and Map Design); 3.5 credits for half-day workshops (Emergency Preparedness for GIS and Next-Gen 911); and 1.0 to 1.5 credits for each of nineteen breakout sessions on topics ranging from Knowledge & Power: Legal and Ethics of GIS and Planning (.5 Legal/1.0 Ethics), Map-21 What Does it Mean for Me and My Agency, and Use of GIS to Facilitate Urban Sustainability.

The online conference schedule  indicates the approved content in an easy-to-use color scheme.

URISA is a multi-disciplinary geospatial organization that provides professional education and training, a vibrant and connected community, advocacy for geospatial challenges and issues, and essential resources.  URISA fosters excellence in GIS and engages geospatial professionals throughout their careers.

The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the American Planning Association’s professional institute and the recognized leader in certifying professional planners and promoting ethical planning, professional development, planning education, and standards of practice. To maintain their certification, AICP members are required to continue their education through Certification Maintenance (CM) credits.  In order to maintain certification, AICP members must earn a total of 32 certification maintenance (CM) credits (1 contact hour = 1 CM credit) within their two-year reporting period. A minimum of 1.5 CM credits must include the topic of ethics, and another 1.5 credits must be on the topic of current planning law.
