MYGEOSS: and the Winners Are…

September 3, 2015 By GISuser

First Call For Innovative Apps in the environmental and social domains – MYGEOSS is a two-year project (2015-16) by the European Commission to develop GEOSS-based (Global Earth Observation System of Systems) smart Internet applications informing European citizens on the changes affecting their local environment. A few applications will be developed in-house by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, but the majority will be developed through three open calls for innovative ideas.

The challenge: The MYGEOSS project launched on March 18th an open call for innovative applications using open data, or crowd-generated data in different domains that address citizens’ needs. The call closed on April 30th and was a resounding success with 58 applications received from 13 countries: 63% from SMEs, 27% from universities and research centres.
The International Panel: The submissions were reviewed by an international panel composed by members of staff of the European Commission, European Environment Agency, European Space Agency, the private sector (OGC and Epsylon-Italia), and the European Network of Living Labs and the European Citizen Science Association.
