Intergraph® Honors Virgin Media and Pure Force and Rescue Corp. with Icon Awards

June 2, 2015 By GISuser

Industry leaders in communications and public safety recognized at HxGN LIVE

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., June 2, 2015 – Intergraph Security, Government and Infrastructure (SG&I) presented Virgin Media and Pure Force and Rescue Corp. with Icon Awards for their use of innovation to better serve their customers and communities. Announced at HxGN LIVE, Hexagon’s annual conference, the Icon Awards are Intergraph SG&I’s highest customer award.

This year’s winners, Virgin Media, the U.K.’s leading ultrafast broadband provider, and Pure Force and Rescue Corp., a private initiative supporting public safety in the Philippines, have implemented Intergraph’s technologies in visionary ways.

“We are honored to recognize Virgin Media and Pure Force and Rescue Corp. for using Intergraph solutions to drive innovation in their industries and make a difference in the communities they serve,” said Steven Cost, Intergraph SG&I president. “These organizations embody what the Icon Awards are truly about, and we at Intergraph are proud to call them our partners.”

Virgin Media

An Intergraph customer since the late 1990s,Virgin Media is the U.K.’s leading ultrafast broadband provider, offering TV, broadband, phone and mobile services. As a result of historical growth through acquisition, Virgin Media needed a single source of all physical network information to expand its fiber-based services to businesses and homes across the U.K. By using Intergraph G/Technology®, Virgin Media created a unified geospatial inventory system to consolidate its disparate legacy systems, streamline its planning processes, solve problems more efficiently and optimize its nationwide communication networks.

Virgin Media has also leveraged analytics from the data in G/Technology to enhance its decision-making processes. The provider has developed distance-to-duct service, an analytical report provided by Intergraph that allows sales agents to understand the costs of building; plant protection service, a web-based service for external parties undertaking street works and excavations; and Olympic route analysis, a specialized data service provided during the London 2012 Olympics.

With Virgin Media planning to extend the reach of its network by 4 million premises by 2020, Intergraph technology will help the provider focus on expansions that will deliver the best return on investment. Virgin Media will also be able to scale up planning and design while keeping inventory up to date – including support for contractors around the globe.

Pure Force and Rescue Corp.

Pure Force and Rescue Corp. is a private initiative created to connect emergency response agencies across the Philippines. Home to nearly 100 million people, the Philippines does not have a centralized emergency response system or a nationwide emergency telephone number, which makes coordination between public safety and emergency response agencies difficult. Pure Force and Rescue Corp. is donating mission-critical software to every city in the Philippines to help overcome this challenge. Manila, the nation’s capital, will be one of the first cities to deploy the solution.

Through Intergraph’s industry-leading Computer-Aided Dispatch (I/CAD) system and Mobile Responder application, law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services can minimize response times, as well as track and manage incidents and emergencies in real time. Through its use of I/CAD, the Pure Force and Rescue Corp. command center has a common operating picture that can facilitate information sharing between agencies in different municipalities around the country. Mobile Responder will extend incident management capabilities to first responders, giving them access to real-time data and true situational awareness. Philippine citizens can also call for help and connect to emergency services through a smartphone app.

Pure Force’s innovative use of dispatching and mobile technologies will help make the Philippines a model for other countries around the world.
