The US based annual OpenStreetMap conference has developed into the largest gathering of OpenStreetMap users over the last couple of years.
This year is shaping up to be an extraordinary event hosted at the United Nations. It comes at a time as OpenStreetMap heads into its second decade and has grown from a seemingly impossible idea – to map the world with volunteers – to critical infrastructure used in humanitarian organizations, government and businesses. The event takes place from June 6 – 8, includes two days of talks and a hack and mapping day.
OpenStreetMap is often dubbed the Wikipedia of maps. Anyone can open an account on OpenStreetMap.org and start mapping within minutes. The project started in 2004 and has grown to 2 million users and close to 30,000 mappers updating the map each month.
